Reduction of Waiting times for Hearing Services

Since the modernisation of Hearing Services in 2003, which introduced digital hearing-aid technology, waiting lists to this service in Wolverhampton increased phenomenally, resulting in an average of 16 months waiting-time for a new hearing assessment and 30 months for a reassessment.  These waiting times were clearly unacceptable and so the service examined ways of reducing the waiting times, without compromising quality.

In Wolverhampton, we now have a responsive service, where currently, appointments for both new and existing patients is now an average of 4 weeks, and the department is working within 18 weeks from when a patient is referred to the service to being fitted with their hearing aid(s).

Paul Holiday, Professional Head of Audiology, said “This is an excellent achievement. The efforts of staff should be commended in the reduction of the original waiting times whilst maintaining the high-quality service to both existing and new patients in Wolverhampton.”
