Travel to New Cross Hospital


New Cross Hospital is located near Wednesfield on the eastern side of Wolverhampton.

From the North – take J11 off the M6 then follow Cannock Rd/A460 to Wolverhampton (go through 4 roundabouts). Turn left to Bushbury Road and continue onto Church Street. Keep left at the fork then turn left onto Wolverhampton Road then take the 2nd left to New Cross Hospital.

From the South – take J10a off the M6 then follow the M54. Take the slip road to Cannock Rd/A460 off the M54. At the roundabout take the first exit onto Cannock Rd/A460 to Wolverhampton (go through 4 roundabouts). Turn left to Bushbury Road and continue onto Church Street. Keep left at the fork then turn left onto Wolverhampton Road then take the 2nd left to New Cross Hospital.

From Wolverhampton City Centre – take the ring road St. Patricks/A4150 then turn left onto the Wednesfield Rd/A4124 then continue to follow Wednesfield Rd/A4124 then take slight left into Wolverhampton Rd then take the 2nd left into New Cross Hospital.

Car Parking and Charges

New Cross Hospital has five designated public car parks within its site.  All car parks can be accessed from the hospital main entrance at Wolverhampton Road and the Prestwood Road entrance.

A weekly (7 consecutive days) parking ticket allows an unlimited number of entries to any of the barrier car parks on the premises within the specified 7 day period.

We have concessions for Renal patients receiving dialysis and Oncology patients receiving Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment. For details please contact the department  you receive your treatment from.

Disabled Parking
There are designated disabled parking spaces within the public car parks in the hospital.  Standard parking charges also apply to blue badge holders.  Click here to view the Hospital site map showing disabled parking locations.

Pay on Exit
All public car parks within the hospital are barrier controlled.  Collect a ticket at the entrance barrier. Take the ticket with you and when you are ready to leave pay at one of the pay stations before returning to your car

Pay stations are situated in the car parks. These pay stations:

  • Accept notes and coins
  • Give change
  • Charge only for the time parked

As the New Cross Hospital site is under increasing pressure for parking, the Trust encourages patients and the public to think differently about how they travel and consider more sustainable methods of transport; for example using public transport.

Travel by bus

New Cross Hospital is within easy reach of Wolverhampton Town Centre. The nearest bus station is the Wolverhampton Bus Station adjacent to the Wolverhampton railway station in the city centre, approximately 2.0 miles away.

  • Bus Service Arriva X68 (free for patients / staff)
    The Arriva X68 service operates Monday to Friday and is FREE of charge for NHS patients with an appointment letter from RWT, Trust staff with an ID badge, children up to five and people over 60 who are carrying an ID card.
    Relatives of patients and the general public can also use the single deck buses but will be charged a standard fare between the two hospitals – £2.60 Adult Single/£1.80 Child Single (aged 5-15 years inc).

    Hourly services start at 6.54am in Wolverhampton and 7.30am in Cannock with stops at Wolverhampton Bus Station, Wednesfield Road, The Blue Brick, New Cross Hospital, Featherstone, Red White and Blue public house, Longford Road, Longford Centre, Cannock Bus Station and Cannock Chase Hospital.
    There is an additional bus at lunchtime with the last services of the day leaving Cannock Chase Hospital at 6.30pm arriving in Wolverhampton Bus Station at 7.06pm. 
    The X68 will not operate the 12-mile route on public holidays.

Travel by Train or Metro

Wolverhampton has a regular main line train service with trains arriving from Birmingham approximately every 30 minutes.  The nearest train station to the hospital is Wolverhampton Train Station which is approximately 2 miles away.

Please visit the National Rail website or contact them on 0845 7484 950 (open 24 hours) for more information on the trains from Birmingham and other stations. 

Midland Metro is the light rail system for the West Midlands which operates between Birmingham and Wolverhampton via key locations including West Bromwich, Bilston and Wednesbury. 23 stops serve the route - and four have Park and Ride facilities.

It operates seven days a week with a 'turn up and go' every eight minutes during the day and every 15 minutes during the evenings and Sundays.
