Care Quality Commission - Annual Health Check 2009

“Excellent” Result for the Trust

The Care Quality Commission has published the Annual Health Check ratings today for the year ended 31st March, 2009.  The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust is delighted that for the second year running the hospital has been rated as “Excellent” for the Quality of Services it provides.

As far as the Trust’s score on Financial Standing is concerned, we have gone from “Weak” in 2005 to “Good” in today’s published Health Check for 2009.  It is an unbelievable achievement for what was one of the 17 most financially challenged Trusts in the NHS and had the Trust been a Foundation Trust, because the scores are calculated differently we would have received an “Excellent” rating and therefore been double “Excellent” for both Quality of Services and Use of Resources.

Half way through the year The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust continues to perform at the highest level in terms of infection prevention, patient safety and preventing harm to patients and we are well on track to achieve a third year of being “Excellent” for the quality of services we provide.  We hope this gives existing patients and people who may use our services in the future, total confidence that they will receive the best quality of care in Wolverhampton, which is one of only 37 hospitals nationally to be rated “Excellent”.
