Volunteering at The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS
Trust
Volunteers help us with providing that ‘little bit extra’ in
improving the experiences of our patients and visitors. In April
2011 the Trust joined with the Community Services in Wolverhampton
which means we now have volunteer opportunities within New Cross
Hospital, West Park Hospital, and some Community Services.
What do volunteers do?
Ways in which volunteers help us are:
- Driving our visitor’s scooter
- Visitors Guides (Wayfinders)
- Patient meal time help on our wards
- Volunteering for the Chaplaincy service
- Carrying out patient surveys on the wards
- Rehabilitation services
- Arts for Health scheme- activities on the wards
- Breastfeeding Peer Support Scheme (click

In addition there are a number of other opportunities
available
(Please note, volunteering is not work experience.
Volunteer opportunities are designed to benefit the hospital
services, and do not specifically involve shadowing staff or health
professionals. For information on work experience, please contact
the hospital switchboard and ask to be put through to the Training
department.)
Frequently asked questions
Is there any age limit?
The minimum lower
age limit for volunteering is 18 years. There is no upper age
limit.
Will I need to attend training?
If
specific training is identified as being relevant to your role, you
will be offered this when you start.
How long will the process take?
Upon
joining, new volunteers will need to undertake a medical
assessment, and CRB check if they will be working with children or
vulnerable adults. This could take a few weeks.
How could I become a Trust volunteer?
If you are interested in joining us to offer your help and
support, you will be made most welcome.
During 2012 we will have 4 information/ recruitment events for
anyone thinking about volunteering with us to come and find out
more and, if interested, apply and register with us to volunteer.
The events will highlight all the different volunteer roles
available and what is expected and required of volunteers. We will
also explain recruitment processes and training. You may sign up on
the day to volunteer if you are interested.

- 13th August 2012 9:30 am- 12:30 pm
- 12th November 2012 9:30 am- 12:30 pm
